Any Other Business?

Dear All,

Being new in town and underemployed, I know very few people and thus lead a somewhat isolated life until my better half (earning wise at least) clocks out.

In fact, I can, in the three weeks that we have been here count only one conversation (intelligible) I have had with anyone, except myself, since I left home. Nice people we met at a restaurant close by, lower case Christians it would (as it always does) emerge who mere making their way somewhat charitably through South East Asia.

My conversational skills are thus poor but my gesturing is improving as the days go by. Jane Goodall might not understand me but everyone else seems to know I want the two-piece snack box and don’t need a “Tuk-tuk” twenty feet from home...

What I really miss though is being out on the town, unfortunately the only thing oscillating these days are our two fans.

Party on,

Mw

Any Other Business?

Dear All,

We live much more open lifestyle here, no, not swinging wise but as a result of the heat and what have you. As we speak, I count two sets of doors and six windows wide open. It is a welcome change.

There are drawbacks though.

Last night, while we slept contently, one the neighbourhood cats who we had previously welcomed on our wrap around balcony, went and had his way on our living room carpet. As a result, his multiple entry visa has been revoked and he and his kind have all been banned. I can’t imagine I would be treated any differently if I had done the same.

Tread carefully,

Mw

Any Other Business?

Dear All,

“The people that you meet in your neighborhood...”

On my second day in town, whilst waiting outside the “Lucky Market” with a new mop, ironing board and a complete assortment of living supplies, I was clearly targeted and approached by an odd, plump, “Western” looking man, obviously struggling with the heat despite the considerable efforts of the mall’s air conditioning. Before I could get my shopping cart in gear, he asked me quickly if I was new in town, whether I was a Marine, and did I have any kids?

Noting my disenchantment the stranger was quick to produce a business card (thankfully nothing else). No need to fear he said, I am a children’s performer, magic teacher and video producer and am eager to entertain any youngsters you may have or know of.

Mystery unswirled.

Cheers,

Mw

Any Other Business?

Dear All,

We have arrived and one of my first observations of note is the is the presence of the video camera, here, there and anywhere including the “VIP Sports Club” changing room.

All I can say is that I hope they’ve had it “White Balanced” or there will be disappointment with the feed, I’m awfully new.

Cheers,

Mw

Any Other Business?

Dear All,

I am having to shut down the ride for a couple of days, we are a "movin and a shakin" and I simply just don't have much time to think of anything clever to say and will not waste your time accordingly.

Your "hit" is important to me though, so please let's all come back reaaal sooon, say early next week.

Kind regards,

Mw

Any Other Business?

Dear All,

A thought on growing older, and one on looking your best:

A distinct sign of aging for men in their thirties has to be the noticeably shrinking “cougar” population. By your early 40’s the hunt should really have been called off, unless perhaps it is the ever elusive “silver fox” you seek.

And,

Find a mirror that supports you and work with it exclusively.

Words to live by indeed.

Cheers,

Mw

Any Other Business?

Dear All,

As our remaining days here quickly go by a few thoughts come to mind:

One of the things I’ll miss most about living here is the fact that nobody would see, let alone annoyingly point out, the irony of occasionally taking an affordable 5 minute cab ride do the gym.

And,

How rewarding it is after seven years of bill paying to call up the many outstretched hands and tell them “it isn’t happening any more”.

Cheers,

Mw

Any Other Business?

Dear All,

Perhaps because we are working diligently to polish two economy size boxes before our move, I have recently felt compelled to spin something about “Special K”…

At the urging of a red swim suited maiden , I will embark on the Special K challenge “Two bowls a day for two weeks for a better me”. I am under every allusion she will meet me here.

Alternatively, much less risqué:

Armed with the resolve of a New Year's resolution and “lite” weapons including Six Inch Submarines and Special K, weight conscious people around the world are setting out to fight their own modern day versions of the “Battle of the Bulge”.

Cheers,

Mw

Any Other Business?

Dear All,

Apologies for the radio silence, the lifestyle caught up with me…

A couple of quick thoughts:

First, my New Year’s resolution is to take inspiration from the toothpaste industry and re-invent this “Blob” as often as necessary until my daily readership exceeds the amount of chairs in my home.

Second, to appreciate these moments of clarity, no matter how distorted they turn out to be.

Cheers,

Mw

Celebratory Armageddon. Hands way up in the air, heads slightly down, New Year’s Eve as heard from our balcony…

Prosper all in 2009

The only way I could possibly enjoy a visit to a wax museum is if they melted someone special or crafted solely with their subject’s ear deposits.

One of the things I like most about jogging in a post conflict environment is the integrity it demands, no short cuts...
